Move-in day checklist
The single most useful thing you can do on move-in day takes twenty minutes: walk the empty home with your phone before a single box comes in. Those photos are what you’ll compare against when you move out. Everything else on this list can wait an hour; the photos can’t.

For tenancies that begin on or after July 1, 2025, the landlord shall take photographs of the unit immediately before, or at the inception of, the tenancy.Cal. Civ. Code §1950.5(g)(1)
