How we make money

Last updated 2026-10-05
In one line
Right now, we don't: there are no ads, no referral links and no paid features. Nothing will ever be paid for by a landlord or property manager.

Today

housr is free. The site shows no display ads, contains no affiliate or referral links, and sells nothing. The ad and referral switches in our own admin console are off.

What may come later

If housr adds ways to earn money, they will be things renters choose, never placement sold to the other side. The options we are considering are:

  • Move-moment referrals (internet, utilities, moving trucks, storage), shown only inside moving checklists, labelled “Partner”, ranked by what is best for you rather than what pays most, and always next to a non-partner option.
  • A renters-insurance referral at the start of a lease: a link to a licensed provider, with no quoting or advice from us.
  • Small paid extras such as more vault storage. The core tools (the splitter, the ledger, letters, condition reports and reminders) stay free.

We will update this page before any of these goes live, with the date.

What we will never do

  • Take landlord or property-manager money for advice, rankings or placement.
  • Sell your details or send them to a landlord.
  • Show display ads, or move money for you.
  • Ask for your Social Security number or bank login.
Our pledge
