“Make it a household” signs you in, adds this bill to a new household ledger, and sets it up as a monthly bill you can edit.
What a “fixed part” is for
Some of every utility bill doesn’t depend on who is home: the monthly service charge, the fridge, the router and anything on standby. Splitting that part evenly is fair to the person who stayed; splitting the rest by days home is fair to the person who was away. A quarter is a reasonable starting point for electricity; set what matches your bill.
Why presence matters for electricity
The U.S. Energy Information Administration lists air conditioning, space heating and water heating as the three largest uses of home electricity, and says an average U.S. residential customer bought about 899 kWh a month in 2022. All three follow who is home. U.S. Energy Information Administration: Electricity use in homes · How much electricity does an American home use? (checked 2026-10-05).
